We have had a very busy and successful Fall semester! I am thankful for a group of student leaders and membership that is passonate about this club, and helping to make the world around us a better place for all. With that in mind, we reached out to a local CCSD school that needs a little help. Compton Elementary asked us to have a Winter Coat Drive for its students. Any size new or clean, gently-worn coat is appreciated. Bins are located outside of the Guidance office. Collection will end on Dec. 16 so that we can get the coats to Compton before the winter break. Next semester, we will also be helping Compton organize and sort their clothing donation closet, and paint a workroom for them. I am working with Home Depot in Powder Springs to hopefully get donated paint and some clear storage containers for sorting clothing. If anyone has a relationship with another vendor that can help out, please let me know. Also, the Hillgrove Guidance department has identified several families in need. If you can donate any denomination Publix, Kroger, Walmart, Target, or gas gift card(s), please bring to the Dec. 13th meeting or drop off to Mrs. Ford in the library. Our Cobb HS Coalition House build begins Feb. 25th. In January, we should know the location of the build. This year we raised funds for 1/2 of a build day-- $4000! We have 15 build slots available to us on 3 different Saturdays, and one of our sponsors, SAM'S BBQ1 is generously providing a catered lunch for the volunteers on one of our build days! Students will be assigned based on points earned through Jan. 31st. Students must have turned in a Blanket Permission form by the deadline, and have filled out the NW Habitat Volunteer profile online on the NWMetro Habitat for Humanity site. Please make sure that you respond to any email sent from NWMetro HFH. There was recently one sent out to update your profile for the 2017 Waiver of Liabiltiy. See Mrs. Ford if questions. If you agree to work on a build, you MUST wholly commit to that day, and stay for the whole day of the build. Unless a family emergency or illness, please do not cancel once you have made the committment to work. Thank you all again --parents, students and sponsors for making an impact on our community. I hope you all have a healthy, blessed holiday season! Mrs. Ford
