On March 2nd, students from our 6 Cobb high schools raised the interior walls, installed homewrap and windows! Now you can really tell the layout of the house! During the week, our "ghost" workers (all the trades - electrical, HVAC, sheetrockers, etc.) work on the stuff we aren't trained and certified to do. Next week, we will install insulation and siding! It is so exciting to see this house come together. Can you imagine being the homeowner and seeing these students come out every week to help?

Due to the rainy weather, our build was moved forward a week from the original start date of February 23rd. We began the build last week, March 2, and will continue to build until May 4th. Hillgrove has student volunteer allotments for 8 of the 9 days! Dedication day is still set for May 11th. We will send out and post the time at a later date. Here is link to the MDJ article about our Cobb HS Coalition build. The cost of our build went up by $10K this year leaving some clubs struggling to raise funds. Luckily, we were able to fulfill our one day commitment of $10,000 which allows us to send 32 student volunteers on the build. On day 1, we raised the exterior walls and put on the OSB board. Next, on Day 2 we will put up interior walls. And just like that, this house starts shaping up to be someone's home. Here are a few pictures of Day 1! |
