2020 - The year that will be discussed, lamented, and never forgotten.
Since March, we have cried (a little), prayed (a lot), pivoted, and most importantly, unified to change lives for families in our community. With your support and the dedication of our partners and volunteers, this year we built three new homes for deserving families in Cobb County and two homes for Veterans in Douglas County. We repaired six homes for seniors and 22 homes for Veterans, renovated more than 4,700 square feet of community space at Sweetwater Mission in Austell, and partnered with the Warrick Dunn Foundation to completely furnish two homes for two single mothers who became first time homeowners this year. We also raised the walls on our first two-story designed Habitat home in Austell; advocated for, and saw the passage of HB 344, which enables us to save $10,000 annually in property taxes on undeveloped land; and we received a $600,000 community improvement grant to build homes for Veterans in Douglasville. Our part-time skilled workers volunteered more than 2,761 hours to make sure we continued to build. Although our sponsors and volunteers could not safely build alongside our homeowners, they kept our mission alive in other ways through donations for our mortgage relief fund, sewing masks, providing food and sending notes of encouragement. In closing, to quote Maya Angelou, “Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.” Thank you to all of you who shined so brightly for us and the deserving families in our community in 2020. Wishing you and your families the happiest of holidays. Click to read our 2020 Year in Review Jessica Gill Chief Executive Officer, Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta Visit our website

Welcome to 2021!
Club meetings will continue to be virtual until we hear from the district that we can have our meetings f2f. We are in contact with our affiliate NW Metro Atlanta HFH and will update as we have information about building. As of now, the 'gray ghosts' volunteers at NW Metro have been building. Because most are retired, the consensus at this time is it is not safe for us to build with them. The Cobb HS Coalition very much wants to build when it is deemed safe for everyone. Until then, we will continue to fund raise, educate and advocate for Habitat for Humanity. As you all know, affordable housing in Cobb is an issue. Per our mission when we began, we will continue to serve our community regarding housing and homelessness in other ways. As we hear of community service opportunities, we will offer them on an individual basis (we cannot do anything outside school as a club at this time). Information for Giving Garden, Calvary and other service opportunities are discussed at our meetings and their sign ups are sent out via remind or to your email. Please join us for our January 12th Otter's Spirit night! Order for pick up or eat in. If you have questions, please email [email protected]. |
